Kit Name: Arborist
Icon: Oak sapling
Armor: Chainmail helmet, chestplate, and leggings. Iron boots with Feather Falling III.
Items: Fuse, Stone Axe, Vines (10)

Description: A support kit that uses its vines to scale vertical surfaces with ease.

Details: The arborist has 10 vines that it can place in order for the player and/or team to climb to unexpected locations, like Barricader sometimes does with its block placements. If broken, the vines will regenerate (1s cooldown). Even if a weapon is used to break the vines, the time they take to break is equivalent to punching barehanded.

Why: I think kits that can create new routes in the game (currently just Barricader) shake up gameplay in a fun way. While Arborist wouldn't have Barri's full range of building options because vines have placement restrictions, I still think it has potential. Also, yes, this idea emerged from "Arbalist" and "Arborist" being amusingly similar words.

interesting idea, I definitely agree that Barricader's ability to create new paths in the map is a really cool part of the kit, but also pretty underrated since other aspects of the kit outshine it.

I think 1 small change that would be nice is making it so if you break one vine within a row of vines, they all break. So if you want to climb up somewhere and retake your vines it doesn't take forever.

I feel like overall the kit would be pretty situational, so adding another ability would be nice imo

I really like this kit! I would say that barricader was designed to be a defensive kit for, well, barricading, and because of that it's ability to make new paths like you described can be somewhat limited at times. That being said, this is really the first kit that creates new routes in this manner! I would change the mechanism in which the vines are placed though. A lot of maps don't have perfectly flat walls to climb (think with Rivals, all the castle walls have indentations on them for detail. Or with New Orleans, all the buildings have a balcony that would make this kit pretty useless on similar maps). What I would do instead is give the player 10 jungle leaves that, when placed, spawn with leaves on all 4 sides where there's an air block. This way, you don't have to depend on the map having a perfectly flat wall for the kit to be viable. On maps like New Orleans, you could build the leaves into a sideways L shape, where the kit user pillars up next to the balcony, and then makes a pathway from the top of the leaf pillar onto the balcony. Another cool feature of the kit might be that the vines spawned from the leaf blocks will grow slowly if the leaves aren't broken.

I think this is a really cool kit!

When you say “jungle leaves that, when placed, spawn with leaves on all 4 sides where there's an air block,” do you mean vines on all four sides? If not, can you illustrate what you mean? My brain is having trouble processing your suggestion, even though I’m sure it’s a much-needed improvement to its applicability!

Sure thing!

In your inventory, you'd spawn with 10 jungle leaves like this: https://prnt.sc/1833uze

When you place some, they'll automatically have vines on all 4 sides (so that they can be climbed): https://prnt.sc/183478p

EXCEPT when there's a block already in the place where one of those vines would be: https://prnt.sc/1834mlc

Over time, say, 20 seconds, if a leaf block hasn't been broken, it's vine will grow at 1 block per 10 seconds; for example, after 40 seconds since this block was placed, 2 vines grew: https://prnt.sc/1834z4d

The last feature is more for aesthetic look than anything.

I’ll have to think about other abilities! What are your thoughts on Espios’s idea for vined leaf blocks? The ability to break the whole row at once could stop people from climbing after you, so that could be useful. Like your own private ladder!
